19th Ct Antique Pewter and Glass Match Striker
Details
A globular (spherical) cut crystal or glass can be seen, with fine horizontal ribbing/threading. A sterling silver rim or collar surrounds the central well, often hallmarked from makers in Birmingham, England, dating from the late 19th century. Designed to hold wax matches in the center well; the ribbed glass surface is rough enough to strike and ignite safety matches or strike-anywhere matches! In current times, a sticker match igniter is placed to ensure safety measures are put into place.
